If you were sitting here at my kitchen table with a cup of coffee, this is what I’d tell you.
I run a little shop called Designs by Tonitunes, tucked here in the River Valley of Arkansas. It started the same way most good things in life do, with curiosity, love, and a few too many “mystery lots” won at small-town auctions back in the early ’90s.
While other kids our age were going to the clubs or the movies, my husband Jim and I were out on our dates, hauling home truckloads of forgotten history from those auctions. We’d spend whole weekends going through them, tossing the trash, keeping what we fancied, and laughing at the oddities. Looking back, those truckloads weren’t just treasures; they were how we got to know each other. They were our classroom in patience, humor, and shared curiosity, and that bond became the foundation of Tonitunes.
That’s what the shop still is today: a place where memory, craftsmanship, and a little whimsy come together. Every piece you see, whether it’s a retro kitchen gadget, a farmhouse trinket, or a metaphysical crystal, has been hand-picked and cared for by real hands, mine and Jim’s. I research every maker’s mark, clean every curve, and wrap every order like it’s a gift for a friend.
People sometimes ask why I bother doing all that myself. The truth is simple: honesty and compassion are the only business plan I’ve ever believed in and a handshake is still as good as any contract to me. If I tell you an item is genuine, it is. If there’s a chip or a dent, you’ll know it before you buy it. My work isn’t about chasing trends. It’s about earning trust, one story at a time, because to me, no sale is worth more than my word.
Tonitunes has grown a bit since those auction-lot days. We now live online, Etsy for the vintage and handmade, eBay for the modern finds, and Shopify for the spiritual side where I share crystals and tools for grounding and intention. But no matter where you find me, the heartbeat’s the same: connection, integrity, and a touch of everyday magic.
I was taught early on to treat people the way I want to be treated, and I still carry that value today. If a customer ever has a problem, all I ask is that they come talk to me. We’ll make it right. I genuinely believe most bad experiences come down to simple miscommunication, and those can almost always be fixed with a little honest conversation.
So that’s who I am, really. Someone who still believes the past has lessons to teach us, that kindness is good business, and that beauty shows up in the smallest, strangest corners of life.
Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internet and taking a moment to slow down. It means more than you know.
