For the Ones Who Have Our Back

For the Ones Who Have Our Back

I’m not talking about the loud cheerleaders who are front and center when the spotlight is shining. I mean the quiet encouragers. The ones who slip a simple “I’m proud of you” into the middle of an ordinary day. The ones who give you a heads-up when they see trouble coming down the road you didn’t notice. The ones who keep showing up, even when it’s inconvenient, because that’s just who they are.

We all have (or hope to have) someone like that. And often, those people are overlooked. Their kindness can blend into the background because they don’t demand recognition. But their presence shapes us in ways we may not realize until later.

Maybe for you, it’s a parent who always knows when you need encouragement but doesn’t make a big deal of it. Maybe it’s a friend who tells you the hard truths you’d rather not hear, but does it with love. Maybe it’s a coworker, a neighbor, or even a stranger who drops a kind word that echoes for years.

For me, it’s family, both the ones I was born to and the ones I’ve chosen along the way. (Hello there, Stacy. 😉) It’s also the unexpected souls who’ve crossed my path at the right time and reminded me I wasn’t alone.

The truth is, none of us make it through life on sheer willpower alone. We’re shaped by the people who believe in us when our own confidence wavers. We’re steadied by the ones who warn us when danger’s ahead. We’re carried, in ways large and small, by the people who have our back.

So this Thankful Thursday, I want to pause and say: if you are one of those quiet encouragers, those loyal protectors, those everyday supporters—you matter. More than you may ever know.

And to those of us on the receiving end, let’s not forget to say it out loud: thank you. Thank you for the kind words, the steady presence, the unseen ways you make life lighter.

Because while vintage treasures may fill our shelves, these living treasures, our people, fill our hearts.

With gratitude, always,
